August Burns Red
I was excited to talk with Matt Greiner from August Burns Red, not just because he’s a metalcore beast, but because he has the best posture in all of metal. I’m not even kidding. And, he’s also highly sensitive, and brings an intelligence and soulfulness to blast beats and odd time signatures, influenced by Meshuggah, Symphony in Peril, and non-metal heroes like Steve Gadd. His drumming – even into itself – supports atypical metal themes like grief, power, and surrender. Enjoy the talk above, and be sure to catch August Burns Red on tour. And please enjoy my favorite pun of the week, when I reminded him that when the band started out, they were only doing it for the chicks. (They rehearsed in an egg barn.)
