Nick Kroll plays cymbal-making kingpin Versatio Bakir, founder of the air-drum battle. Nick was a great improvisor. I had seen him at a little comedy club in the East Village and asked my friend Natasha Leggero to track him down to be in the movie. The name Versatio came from a very early Tim & Eric video I’d been obsessed with called “Versatio,” plus the Turkish word for copper, bakir. Power had been fired from a copper mine owned by his nemesis Dallas Houston, so it seemed appropriate to do battle among “copper” enemies, as Power plays no-cymbals and no-drums. But Versatio Bakir has a sensual relationship with his cymbals, and his patented drum-matching machine. – Ari Gold
