While Steely Dan had more drummers than Tommy Lee had lovers, Dr. Steve Gadd stands out for inventing one of the most powerful air-drum tracks of all time, on the Dan’s epic track Aja. It was only appropriate that when I toured through San Francisco, my co-star, the Tailor from “Kung Fu Hustle,” Grandmaster Chiu Chi Ling, would join me on stage to perform this song. Steve Gadd is a Doctor of incredible drumming, and we did our best to honor him, as well as the Donald Fagen / Walter Becker song.
